A deep red with a slightly yellow tone. Dye extracted from madder root has high colorfastness; madder is one of humanity's oldest plant dyes. This color is also used to describe the brilliant red of sunset clouds — "madder-red sky." Another madder-derived color is Scarlet (#d3381c), a vivid red much brighter than madder red.
