Humanity's oldest yellow pigment is believed to be yellow ocher. In Japan, grasses such as karayasu (Microstegium vimineum) were used early on as yellow dye, producing traditional Japanese color names like Karayasu-iro (#f5e56b) and Kihada-iro (#fef263).
