A bright blue from a pigment whose main component is cobalt aluminate. French chemist Baron L.J. Thénard first successfully synthesized this color in 1802, and production began in the mid-19th century — hence also called Thénard Blue. Cobalt Blue is primarily used for pigments and ceramics.
