The Japanese name "卵色" (tamago-iro, "egg color") — also written "玉子色" — is a reddish-yellow like an egg yolk. Though modern yolks can approach orange, this refers to a standard yolk color. Egg Yellow appeared as a dye color in the early Edo period, becoming popular for kimono by the mid-Edo. Another egg-related color, "蛋殼色" (torinoko-iro, #fff1cf), is the pale yellow of the eggshell.
