A deep green like the needles of evergreen conifers (pines). Among the changing seasons, the unchanging green of pine trees is a symbol of longevity. "千歳緑" (chitose-midori, "thousand-year green") is an auspicious color name, suggesting green that remains unchanged for a thousand years. Though conceptually similar to "松葉色" (pine needle color), chitose-midori is deeper (#316745 vs. #839b5c). During the Edo period, brown tones became fashionable, giving rise to the greenish-brown "千歳茶" (chitose-cha, #494a41).
