A slightly light brown obtained by dyeing with clove (Myrtaceae family). The Japanese name is "丁字色" (chōji-iro). Heian-period aristocrats used clove buds — originally from the Maluku Islands — for dyeing, called "丁字染" (chōji-zome). Clove is also a well-known spice, and like turmeric and cinnamon, was used as a dye.
