A gray with a silvery tone. During the Edo period, sumptuary laws banned bright kimono, leading to the popularity of browns and grays — the so-called "forty-eight teas, hundred mice." Silver Gray was the lightest of the popular grays. Because it resembles the color of tin (a metal used for bronze), it was also called "tin color" (錫色) in ancient times.
