Classified as "light gray" in the JIS color standard. Its Japanese name "银鼠" (gin-nezumi, "silver mouse") refers to the color of a silver-gray mouse, a popular kimono hue during the Edo period. In modern Japan, the term "gin-iro" is also used playfully to describe hair that is increasingly streaked with silver.
